Peers Vote to Repeal "Insult Law" from Section 5 of the Public Order Act 1986

On Wednesday, 12th December, 2012, the House of Lords voted by a large majority, 150 to 54 to remove the "Insult Law". The amendment to Section 5 of the Public Order Act was proposed and moved by Lord Dear, a former Chief Constable and HM Inspector of Constabulary. The Law has been perceived as an infringement of people's freedom of speech, expression and religious liberty.
